About the Program

Outdoor activities can boost energy, improve mental focus, reduce pain and enhances creativity. The benefits of the outdoors are seemingly endless.  Aside from the unmatched beauty that is found in nature, the health advantages are plentiful.

Brittanie Williamson leads our Equip Outdoors programming.  Britt’s experience outdoors and  understanding of Mother Nature helps create big value for Outdoors participants. 

In 2017, Britt set off on a 5-month adventure of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,650-mile trail, from Mexico to Canada. It was the greatest experience of her life. In 2017, she and a friend, became the first American women to thru hike the Via Dinarica trail, an 800-mile trail that goes from Slovenia to Albania, crossing through Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro, following the Dinaric Alps. After that, Brittanie headed to France and completed the Camino de Santiago by hiking across Spain to the ocean.

Currently a trainer at CrossFit Novato and a surf instructor for Marin Outdoor Academy, Brittanie shares her love for the outdoors through organizing trips and spending time with others. Brittanie has a BA degree in Exercise Science, is CF Level 1 certified, CPR certified, and Wilderness First Aid Certified.

FREE COMMUNITY HIKE TO ALAMERE FALLS - JANUARY 23, 2020

Come experience a 9 mile hike near Bolinas. The trail provides views of the coast, some lakes, as well as a forest feel as you hike miles sheltered by trees. It is a long hike, distance wise, but the terrain is very easy as most of it is flat. Alamere falls is a series of 4 waterfalls, the last of which goes right onto the beach. We will meet at 8am and plan to arrive at the trail at about 9am to begin the hike. Be sure to bring plenty of water and either a snack or a small lunch to eat at the falls. We will be back at the cars around 1:45pm to head back, plan on returning to the gym by 3pm. There is no fee for this hike, however we will accept donations. Suggested donation amount is $20/person. All money raised will directly fund future Equip Outdoor adventures for teens.  HIKE DETAILS: Alamere Falls via Palomarin 8am-3pm. FULL DAY HIKE OF MT. DIABLO - 7 mile trail. FEBRUARY 9, 2020

This adventure is for both teen boys and teen girls (ages 14-18) with a moderate fitness level. Not only is the hike on the longer end, it has over 3,000 ft of elevation gain. We will be spending the entire day testing ourselves physically and mentally while taking in views up to 200 miles away. Bring your own food and water and daypack. We will provide some fruit and snacks beforehand and after the hike. Again, be sure you feel confident in your capability of performing the hike before signing up! Hike will take place from 7am-4pm. Maximum 10 participants, 5 minimum. Reservations must be made by 1/29. Cost $10/ person. Transportation included. Bring your own food and water.

TEEN GIRLS 2-NIGHT BACKPACKING TRIP IN SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS - FEBRUARY 20-22, 2020

We will be exploring the Santa Cruz mountains within the Big Basin State Park. Known for its redwoods and sea views, we will explore the trails on this 3 day, 2 night, 20 mile trip. It is ideal for all fitness levels. We will see Redwood forest, large waterfalls, beach views,and he'd to the top of Chalk mountain. The teens will gain backpacking experience and knowledge as we will be finding and filtering our own water, packing in and carrying all of our food and supplies. They will learn the principles of Leave No Trace, as well as basic survival skills. During this time in nature we will also explore ourselves, and reconnect with nature. The group will be sure to create a special bond, as we will all work together to make the experience as amazing as possible. All fitness levels are welcome. Shelter and transportation provided. Each teen will need their own sleeping bag and pad, as well as their own packs, water bottles, and food. A total of 6 meals will need to be packed. 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners. Beforehand, you will receive info and any assistance on finding gear and optimal food choices. Teen girls, ages 15-17 are welcome. Maximum 10 participants, 4 person minimum. COST: $185. Transportation and shelter included.  Reservations must be made by 2/5.

TEEN BOYS MT. TAM HIKE, CAMP & STINSON BEACH SURF ADVENTURE - MARCH 14-15, 2020.

This experience will be for teens boys looking to spend a night out in nature, explore the trails of Mt. Tamalpais, and surf at Stinson beach. We will be camping on Mt. Tam, arriving Saturday morning before heading out to the summit of the mountain. The hike to the summit is just under 9 miles round trip, but good for all fitness levels as we can adjust as needed. After the hike we will return to camp for dinner and a campfire. Sunday morning the boys will be doing a 2 hour surf lesson at Stinson beach. All food, shelter, transportation,and surf lesson with rentals are included in the cost. They will need to bring their own sleeping bag and sleeping pad. We recommend bringing your own additional snacks if you feel you would like something specific or extra! No phones allowed! This event is for boys ages 14-17. Maximum 10 participants, 5 minimum. COST: $250. Reservations must be made by 3/7.

FAMILY BIOLUMINESCENT KAYAK ADVENTURE IN TOMALES BAY - APRIL 17, 2020

Grab your kids! In our own backyard, we have the ability to see something few others even know about. Tamales Bay is known for many things, one of them being the Bioluminescence that can take over the water during the night, making the ocean and waves glow. We will be embarking on a 3 hour Kayak tour, getting to be in the water with these amazing creatures. We will be using Blue Waters Kayaking (previously Point Reyes Outdoors). The tour is from 7:30pm-10:30pm. No previous experience required. One adult per 2 kids must attend, although only one kid minimum is required. Sorry adults you cannot come solo. Maximum 16 participants. COST: $105/person. Transportation included.
